EnduroSat leads consortium for European dual-use Earth observation

EnduroSat Germany has been selected by the European Space Agency to lead a consortium under the first phase of the European Resilience from Space for Earth Observation (ERS-EO) programme, developing LLARS (Low Luminance Resilience from Space), an in-orbit demonstration and validation mission for the programme’s Earth observation component. The project supports the EU’s future European Earth Observation Governmental Service (EOGS) and advances Europe’s secure, independent access to EO data in line with the Defense Readiness Roadmap 2030.

Building Europe’s sovereign low luminance independent capability

Effective crisis response, maritime monitoring and border surveillance depend on Earth observation capabilities that operate continuously, regardless of time of day. Current European systems are largely constrained by daylight. The LLARS program establishes the foundation for a sovereign European Earth observation capability that delivers reliable monitoring around the clock, independent of illumination conditions.

‘’These contracts are fundamental, paving the way to establishing the initiative's technological foundation, validating key capabilities in space and accelerating the development for independent European security, crisis response and strategic autonomy.’’
Simonetta Cheli
ESA Director of Earth Observation Programmes
Direct path from demonstration to constellation

As a Germany‑based prime and platform provider, EnduroSat contributes its modular ESPA‑class FRAME satellite bus, enabling rapid integration of diverse payloads and fast transition from demo to operational constellations. This flexible, flight-proven architecture shortens development cycles and speeds the transition from demonstrated capability to an operational European constellation. LLARS strengthens Germany’s contribution to the EU space ecosystem and underscores EnduroSat’s role in delivering scalable, sovereign EO services for Europe.
