Antarctica is closer than you think

Flotilla Admiral (Ret.) Prof. Boyan Mednikarov with Commander Nikolai Danailov, former commanding officer of the Naval ship Sv.Sv. Kiril i Metodii
EnduroSat flag is flying over Antarctica – 14 000 km away and 5 time zones from our headquarters in Sofia. Retired Flotilla Admiral Prof. Boyan Mednikarov carried the flag on his journey to the Icy Continent where he joined the team of the 33rd Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition for a third time. The last group of Antarctic explorers arrived on King George Island in the first days of February and was transported by the Naval ship Sv.Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) to the Livingston Island where the Bulgarian Antarctic base is located. The research vessel is equipped with SpaceLab built by EnduroSat. Thanks to the lab, the crew is able to receive images from EnduroSat satellites. The lab will be synchronized with the state-of-the-art Balkan-1 satellite, successfully launched to orbit in January. The ship will soon set sail from Antarctica. The first leg of the epic 2-month journey back home is through the terrifying waves of the Drake Passage. The crew will use images from Balkan-1 to determine his route.
